Ranger: Glitz Stickles (Grape);
Ranger: Distress Stain (Dusty Concord);
The Twinery: Mandarin twine (15 yards);
The Twinery: Lilac twine (15 yards);

I wanted to do a special giveaway for the end of May, which is Lupus Awareness Month

Lupus Awareness Month is important to me because I was diagnosed with lupus a couple of years ago (after having symptoms for a few years). I personally hadn't heard much about it until I found out I might have it, and I figure there are many others out there who don't know much about it or maybe who have never even heard of it before.

Lupus is often represented by butterflies (because of the "butterfly rash" that can present itself in some cases of lupus) and the traditional awareness color for lupus is purple (and sometimes orange as a secondary awareness color)...that is why I have chosen the items shown above for the giveaway.

I highly encourage you to learn more about lupus. Chances are, it affects someone you know.
You can quickly read a few facts about lupus HERE, or get a little more in-depth information HERE

The Details:
To enter:
  • Leave a comment on this blog post. That's it!

  6. I checked out the info sites. I knew that women were the ones most diagnosed, but I didn't realize that those with lupus have so much trouble with osteoporosis...another reason I guess that the highly recommend exercise.

  10. I have to admit that I really knew nothing about the disease before this. However, I learned that it is a autoimmune disease, affects mostly women, affects joints and muscles quite a bit, organs and skin in some cases. I do hope you've got a "milder" case of it- definitely a great incentive to eat well and exercise since those seem to help.

  32. Tifany,

    I just stopped by your blog because I hadn't been here in so long and I wanted to tell you that I miss you being able to share on the Fiskateer mb when the companies you design for are having are doing something special that I can support. (I just went to the Promotions category and see that no one is using it.)

    So, your Lupus Awareness giveaway was quite a surprise! I think I have told you we had a girl live with us her senior year of high school so she could go to school here, while her family was being transfered in the military. Her mother was a good friend of ours and suffers from Lupus terribly! That young girl is now 33 years old and has also tested positive for lupus. Luckily, she isn't having any major symptoms as of yet and can enjoy raising her three young children! This is a very nice thin you are doing by having a giveaway to raise awareness!

  35. Hi there,
    I suffer from fibro, which has a lot of similar symptoms of lupus, though not as damaging physically. I had a cousin who suffered from lupus as well and am familiar with the disease. It's a tough battle and takes a strong person to fight through it and share about it. Thanks for doing this great giveaway and I hope you'll come by my blog sometime too. :)

  37. New things I've learned... Wow, I didn't realize that 90% of ppl w/Lupus are female! I knew it was more prevalent, but I've also known a man with it so I didn't realize the difference was so drastic. Also I had no idea that it is higher in other ethnic groups than Caucasian. Again, I've only known white ppl that have it so I didn't even think about that! Great info!

  49. I thought this fact was particularly fascinating.
    African Americans, Hispanics/Latinas, Asians and Pacific Islanders, and Native Americans are diagnosed with lupus two or three times more frequently than Caucasians; however, lupus affects people of all races and ethnicities.
    The two people I know of that have it are Caucasian.

  50. Wow, this is so great of you in support of Lupus awareness! My daughter has lupus and somedays are better than others. Individuals with lupus are such brave fighters because they work hard to care for their families needs and to also take care of themselves.
