Adventures in Bible art & journaling :: Everywhere that man can be...God is present there

The idea for the art on this Bible page was prompted by the song, "I Sing the Mighty Power of God".

Too often I just go about my day with my mind on my tasks and getting distracted by situations that arise, but I want to intentionally focus on this idea that God is always with us...everywhere...in every situation...all the time.
{Journaling says: "Everywhere that man can be, You, God, are present there."}

I thought this idea went well with David's words in Psalm 27, so that is where I chose to put it in my Bible.

I'm going to try to keep this idea at the front of my mind today.

Have a great day!

Adventures in Bible art & journaling :: Abide With Me

Well, I've done several reviews of Christian books and journaling Bibles lately, but haven't done much actual Bible journaling. I am trying to get back in the swing of things, though, and this page is my "comeback":
I made a weave of washi tape, gave it a little layer of paint to stamp on, and then stamped and did some quick coloring. It was a fairly simple approach, but has kept this idea ("Abide With Me") bouncing around in my head for weeks...which is why I love Bible art & journaling so much.

Have a great day!

Adventures in Bible art & journaling :: Exceedingly Abundantly

Oh boy...
I've got a confession to make.

I started out Bible journaling saying I was going to try to use a minimal amount of supplies (mainly pens and colored pencils) and here I am today sharing two pages smeared with various colors of paint.
It's just fun, though...and suck a quick way to splash some color onto the page. (And with 4 kids, I have only got short bursts of time to be able to do Bible art.)

So, apparently my pages aren't going in quite the direction I had imagined, but I am just going to have to be okay with that - because, for now, it's what works for me.
This first page was inspired by one night of reflection and discussion among our church family - looking at a few weeks in particular that just seemed like God was heaping the good onto our little group. Now, the past week or two have been pretty rough going for our group as a whole, but no matter what...God is still good. And he still blesses us "exceedingly, abundantly more" than we could ask or imagine.

The next page came from a night of family Bible reading - these words from Psalm 63 just jumped out at me.
I envisioned a great, beautiful sunburst (perfect for the current Creative Worship Bible Journaling group challenge), but this colorful splatter is just going to have to do.

I used the same two new Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps stamp sets that I used on my previous page (Classy Script Alpha and Outline Alpha) - I just love these together!
I stamped the Outline Alpha onto various washi tape pieces and fussy cut them...I love the finished effect.

Although I do love how these two pages turned out, I am more excited about how these concepts will be highlighted in my mind for a long time to come.

Thank you for visiting today!

Adventures in Bible art & journaling :: Mercies & Mustard

I am not a morning person.
Not even close.

A few months ago I was aboard a long early morning flight - very early - and I had the opportunity to see the sun rise. I have probably seen only a handful of sunrises, and generally only will volunteer to get up that early if I am going to Disneyland. But let me tell you, seeing a sunrise from an airplane is an incredible sight. Being able to see a very looong horizon lit up in a rainbow of colors is seriously awe-some. As I was looking at the morning sky, I saw a full rainbow (ROYGBIV) stretched across the entire length of the horizon. As I saw it, I started thinking about how God covers the earth with rainbows constantly...morning and night...day after day...reminding us that he is covering us with His protection, peace, and love.

His mercies are new every morning.
I added this art in my Bible in Lamentations 3:22-23, where it says (ESV):
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
His mercies never come to an end;
They are new every morning;
Great is your faithfulness.

(Lamentations is previously un-journaled for me, so this is a perfect fit for the current journaling challenge in the Creative Worship Bible Journaling group on Facebook.)
You may have seen this one in progress over on my Instagram feed. After I put down the initial color background, I added some washi tape, stamping, and hand lettering. The stamps I used are from the Cold Coffee Alphabet set from Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps.

Since I had the paints out, I decided to do a little painting in my other journaling Bible. I also used the same Cold Coffee Alphabet stamp set for the word "mustard" here.
I have seen where people will add a mustard seed to their Bible pages, but didn't have mustard seeds, so I went with a mustard-ish paint color and a tiny mustard-seed-size dot with my Sharpie marker.
I added a few details with a white (extra fine) Sharpie Paint Pen including some tiny polka dots on the stamped letters.

Adventures in Bible art & journaling :: Spoiler Alert: The Lord Is Risen!

Hello again! I've got two pages in my journaling Bible to share with you today.

The first one is a little bit of a spoiler alert:
I've got this stamped journaling card taped in where I can read about the death of Jesus. It serves as a reminder that He is no longer dead - He is risen! (He is risen, indeed.) For this one I combined two stamp sets from Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps - The Lord is Risen and Worship the Lord.

For the next one, again, I combined two Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps stamp sets - Choose Faith and Seek Him.
I love how you can combine the outlined words and the solid words from Choose Faith for this "off-register" effect.

These two entries were fairly quick and very easy...and I just love how they turned out. Any time I get to spend working in my Bible is a good time.

Wishing you a very happy Easter Sunday!
He is risen!

The Hop Order:
I was inspired by a display I saw at a library and the popular art of yarn bombing to do this "twine bombing" (twine wrapped) twig display for my daughter's room. I used the Twinery's Solid Caribbean twine for this, but any of The Twinery's solid or striped twines would work just as well.
My daughter LOVES color and can never have enough. For her, being in a rather neutral colored house is a tragedy. I've got a few projects in mind to add some color to her room (stay tuned to see more!), and this Caribbean twine tree was a fairly quick and easy way to add some color to the top of her bookcase.

I started by gathering a few twigs from our backyard. I coated them with Mod Podge for a little extra stability and to seal them, but I am not sure this step was necessary. From here on out, all I needed was twine and a strong adhesive. (I added in some washi tape, too.)
Once I had my supplies together, I just needed to start wrapping the tree branches. I used some washi tape to cover the ends, then adhered the end of my twine down about an inch from the tip. I brought the twine back up to the tip from there and started wrapping (just so that the end was not exposed). Then I wrapped, wrapped, and wrapped some more. Where there was a fork in the branch, it took a a little extra patience to get it covered, but was still rather easy.
I combined a few twine wrapped branches and a few washi tape wrapped branches in a mason jar, tied a Caribbean twine bow around the neck of the jar, and my project was complete!
Thanks for stopping by today!

Spring Birthday Table Decor {The Twinery}

Today I wanted to share with you a quick way to spruce up a party table (great for birthdays, tea parties, or garden dinner parties) using The Twinery's new Spring Blossom twine.
First, to create a small, decorative vase, I took an empty jar (this one formerly held a delicious beverage) and wrapped it with Spring Blossom twine. (Mine had already had the label removed, but it is not necessary for this - just cover that label up!)

I find it easiest to keep everything in place simply by using a strip of adhesive. Adhesive with a backing that peels away is best - just remove a bit of the backing at a time:
Tip: You may need another strip of adhesive on the opposite side of the jar if you are dealing with a tapered area.

When I finished wrapping the "vase" I added a few little embellishments - but it looks great even without them thanks to that Spring Blossom twine.

Next, I went to work on a little decoration for some party favors - a small picture frame. I wanted to give it a more personal touch, so I created a simple washi tape banner to string across it.
Step 1: Lay a strip of washi tape so the twine is across the midpoint.
Step 2: Fold washi tape over and adhere together.
Steps 3 & 4: Cut ends of washi tape "flags" to finish.

These frames can also double as placecards - just write each attendee's name on the glass with a write on/wipe off (dry erase) marker:
Put a few flowers in your new twine-wrapped decorative vase, set the table, and you are ready to party!
Thanks for stopping by!

Baby Shower in a Box - Pop Up Banner

Living at a distance from friends and loved ones can present a problem when you want to send a cute gift. Recently I gathered up gifts from members of our church family to send to a family who had moved away. I wanted to make this feel a little bit like a baby shower (as much as can be done in a box)...and baby showers need decorations, right?

I created this banner that would pop up when the flaps of the cardboard box were lifted:
It came together rather easily - just a few shipping tags, some washi tape, Unity alpha stamps, and it is all strung up with The Twinery's twine, of course.
I thought this was a fun addition for a gift sent from afar.

Please share with me - what do you do to make long-distance gifts special?

PS - I am next week's Growing In Unity gal! Please be sure to stop by each day next week to see what I've created - and comment to win some Unity stamps!

Thanks Card

I've got to admit: a lot of times when I create a card - it just ends up in a box...piled on top all of the other cards I've made...and it stays there until I have too many and then I give them away to someone who will actually use them.
Sad, but true.
I know I have heard of many other cardmakers who are the same - make a card just to do something creative, but then it just sits there.

Sometimes, though - I will make a card with a specific purpose in mind...and actually give it to the intended recipient(s)!

This was such a card:
To create this card I started by putting strips of floral masking tape on a piece of cardstock, then I die cut it for my sentiment. I just love that Thanks die! I am going to get a lot of use out of that one.
And of course I love anything to do with mason jars - I don't know why they are so cute...but they are. I die cut the base of the jar from a vellum that has some sparkles in it, then die cut the lid from a silvery cardstock.
I then finished it off by tying the top of the jar with twine and adhering everything to the card base. It's a card that came together fairly quickly and I am pleased with the result.
